India's Most Visited Devi Shrine
Mata Vaishno Devi in the Trikuta hills is among the most visited pilgrimage sites in India — millions climb each year to the holy cave where the Goddess is worshipped as three natural rock pindis: Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswati.
The Yatra Route
From Katra, the paved 13 km path climbs via Banganga, Charan Paduka and Ardhkuwari to the Bhawan. Battery cars, ponies, palkis and a helicopter (Katra–Sanjichhat) ease the climb; a yatra slip from the Katra registration counter is mandatory before starting.
Best Time and Tips
Open year-round; March–October is most comfortable, while Navratri sees the largest crowds. Carry warm layers for the cave even in summer, and allow extra time during festival periods.
