The Lake of the Trinity
Satopanth Tal is a striking triangular lake at 15,100 ft, held in Hindu tradition to be where Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva meditate. The trail starts from Mana — India's celebrated 'last village' near Badrinath — and runs beneath the colossal Chaukhamba massif past the Vasudhara falls.
The Route
Mana → Vasudhara → Lakshmi Van → Chakratirtha meadows → Satopanth Tal, returning the same way. The upper trail crosses moraine and boulder fields with faint paths — a guide is essential.
Best Time
Late May–June and September–early October, aligned with the Badrinath yatra season when road access and support are available.
Difficulty
Difficult: sustained altitude, rough moraine walking, and exposed sections above Lakshmi Van. Suited to experienced trekkers; the reward is one of Garhwal's most spiritually charged and least crowded destinations.
