The Old Trade Road

Parang La is the ancient trade artery between Spiti and Changthang — the route by which salt, wool and horses moved for centuries. From Kibber's crags the trail crosses the 18,300 ft pass onto the glacier-fed Pare Chu, then follows that lonely river across high desert to the shores of Tso Moriri.

The Route

Kibber/Dumla → Thaltak → Borochen → pass crossing → days along the Pare Chu (Datang Yongma, Racholamo) → Kiangdom at Tso Moriri's southern tip → Karzok village. Expect river crossings, vast emptiness, and camps above 15,000 ft throughout.

Requirements and Season

July–September. Very difficult by virtue of sustained altitude and remoteness rather than technicality — full self-sufficiency, acclimatization in Spiti, and inner-line permits for the Ladakh side are required. One of the great wilderness walks of the Indian Himalaya.

Detailed day-wise itinerary, current price and departure dates are shared on enquiry. Conditions, permits and regulations change season to season — we confirm everything current at booking.
