The Definitive Ladakh Trek

Markha Valley is Ladakh distilled: whitewashed villages with barley terraces, monasteries and chortens, canyon narrows, and the twin-summited Kang Yatse presiding over the upper valley. A homestay network lets you trek village-to-village, sleeping in Ladakhi homes.

The Route

From Chilling or Skiu, the trail follows the Markha river through Markha village and Hankar to the Nimaling plateau (15,700 ft), then crosses Kongmaru La (17,100 ft) and descends the gorge to Shang Sumdo, an hour's drive from Leh.

Best Time and Difficulty

June–September. Moderate: the homestay style keeps loads light, but Nimaling nights are cold and the pass is a real 17,000-footer — acclimatize properly in Leh first. Hemis National Park fees apply; snow-leopard sightings are rare but real.

Detailed day-wise itinerary, current price and departure dates are shared on enquiry. Conditions, permits and regulations change season to season — we confirm everything current at booking.
