The Sacred Circuit
Kinnaur Kailash is one of the Panch Kailash — its summit ridge bears a 79-ft rock Shivling that changes colour with the day's light. The parikrama circles the massif through Kinnaur's apple villages and over the stark Charang La, blending hard trekking with living pilgrimage.
The Route
The classic circuit runs Thangi → Lambar → Charang village and its ancient Rangrik monastery, crosses Charang La (~17,200 ft) on scree and snow, and descends steeply to Chitkul — the last village of the Baspa valley.
Season, Permits and Difficulty
July–September, aligned with the local yatra period. Difficult: the pass day is long and loose, and weather turns fast. Being close to the border, carry ID; permit formalities for parts of Kinnaur change periodically and are handled with local support.
