Temple and Summit in a Weekend

From the meadow roadhead of Chopta, a paved 3.5 km trail climbs to Tungnath — the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedars. Another kilometre of steeper trail gains the Chandrashila summit (13,100 ft), whose sunrise panorama sweeps from Nanda Devi to Chaukhamba and Kedarnath peak.

The Route

Most travellers base at Chopta and do temple plus summit as a day walk, adding Deoria Tal (a reflective lake near Sari village) on the drive in or out. It's the definitive Himalayan weekend from Rishikesh/Haridwar.

Best Time

Open in every season. March–June for rhododendron bloom, autumn for the sharpest views, and December–February for an accessible snow experience — note the temple itself closes in deep winter while the trail usually remains walkable with care.

Difficulty

Easy but deceptively steep in stretches — the short distance climbs quickly. Trekking shoes and layers suffice; in snow months, microspikes help on the summit ridge.

Detailed day-wise itinerary, current price and departure dates are shared on enquiry. Conditions, permits and regulations change season to season — we confirm everything current at booking.
