The Lake at the River's Birth
Beas Kund is the small glacial lake held to be the source of the Beas river, cupped in a cirque of mountaineering peaks — Friendship Peak, Shitidhar, Ladakhi and Hanuman Tibha rise straight from its meadows. It packs genuine big-mountain atmosphere into a long-weekend trek from Manali.
The Route
From the Dhundi roadhead beyond Solang, the trail follows the infant Beas to the Bakarthach meadow camp, then crosses moraine to the lake at 12,770 ft. Most itineraries camp two nights and return the same way, keeping walking days short and scenic.
Best Time and Difficulty
May to October, with snow patches early season and clear alpine light after the monsoon. Graded easy: gentle distances and one rocky lake-day make it ideal for fit beginners and acclimatization before bigger Himachal objectives.
